Terms of Service
Menu Money is a marketplace: advertisers fund campaigns, and people running the macOS app earn a share of the revenue from verified impressions. These terms cover both sides.
For people earning
A verified impression: the ad was on screen, your Mac was awake and unlocked, the menu bar was visible, and you were present. Nothing else earns.
55% of each impression's price. The rate is stored per account and we will tell you before it changes.
Request a payout once your balance reaches $10. Payouts are sent by hand in monthly batches. The payment processing fee is deducted from the amount you request, and the exact fee is shown before you confirm.
Earnings are income. You are responsible for reporting them where you live. We may need tax details from you before sending money.
Synthetic activity, automation that simulates presence, or multiple accounts on one machine void the affected earnings. We reject bad events rather than clawing back paid ones wherever we can.
Pause ads in Settings or quit the app. Balances already earned remain payable.
For advertisers
Your budget is a hard cap enforced at serve time. If we over-deliver past it, that is on us and you are not billed for it.
Sleeping, locked, fullscreen, idle and duplicate events are rejected before billing.
Money you add to a campaign stays as campaign credit and can be moved between your campaigns. We do not return spent budget.
You warrant that you have the rights to the text, images and destination you submit, and that they are lawful and not misleading.
Ads that imitate system or security messages, malware, scams, adult content, illegal goods, or content targeting a private individual. We review creative before it serves and can pause a campaign at any time.
Delivery depends on how many people are running the app and what other campaigns bid. Estimates are estimates.
Both sides
Accounts are personal to you; keep your password to yourself. We can suspend an account that is being used to defraud the marketplace, and we will say why. We keep the double-entry ledger as the record of what was earned, spent and paid — if a display disagrees with the ledger, the ledger is correct.
The service is provided as is. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us, or that we owe you, in the preceding three months.
We will post material changes to these terms here and, for anything that affects money, email you before it takes effect.
